Crofts

A croft operates in much the same way as a farm in HerdPlan. We aim to make managing a croft, and the crofters who work in it, as easy as possible.

Setting up a croft is entirely the responsibility of the vet, and the crofters do not need an account to take advantage of the benefits of health planning with HerdPlan.

Some key differences to farms in managing a croft are detailed below.

Crofters

As a part of creating a new croft, you can add one or more crofters. These are distinct from typical HerdPlan user accounts, and are not able to log in to view the croft on HerdPlan. This helps keep information private and prevent crofters seeing sensitive information about each other.

Crofters can be freely added or modified at a later date, or can be archived from the croft if no longer needed. There must always be at least one crofter active in the croft.

Each crofter will need their unique CPH number to be entered. Their Holding ID assigned to them by the Crofting Commission can optianally also be entered to help HerdPlan verify their identify.

Farm Team

On the farm team page is a new card showing which crofters are currently active in the croft.

Livestock Groups

In a croft, a livestock group must be associated with a crofter, and a crofter can be associated to multiple livestock groups.

Actions

While setting up actions in a new or existing plan, you can assign duplicate actions to any or all crofters.

Duplicating Actions for Crofters

  1. When creating a new action, click the Assign to crofter(s) button to select the crofters you wish to assign the action to.

The crofters shown are based on which livestock groups are present in the current plan.

    Adding actions for crofters

  2. At this stage, you have two options.

    1. When ready, submit the plan

This will generate identical actions in the calendar, one for each crofter chosen.

    2. Click the Generate individual actions button

This will also generate individual actions for each chosen crofter, but they can be freely customised before submitting the plan.

Routine Treatments

Routine Treatments in a croft can be assigned to multiple livestock groups at once. This will create an identical treatment event for each selected livestock group.

Health Plan Summary

The health plan summary generated as part of the Vet's Health Plan Approval remains the same as a farm, as does the unapproved copy that can be generated on the Client Health Plan page.

However, in a croft it is also possible to generate a health plan summary on an individual basis for each crofter.

Download summary button in the list of crofters

Clicking the Download Summary button next to each crofter will download a PDF health plan summary containing only plans associated with a livestock group that crofter is responsible for. Actions for other crofters will be hidden.

This summary document can be forwarded to the crofter in whichever way they best prefer to receive documents.
